| Formed as a Service battalion on 30th August 1914 at Bristol by the local Citizens' Recruiting Committee. Accepted by War Office on 23rd June 1915. Full Title - 12th (Service) Battalion (Bristol). | |||||||||||
| Initially assigned to 95th Infantry Brigade, 32nd Division for training whilst in the UK. Arrived in France on 21st November 1915 and 95th Brigade re-assigned to 5th Division on 26th December 1915. | |||||||||||
| Served in France and Flanders (Arras, Somme, Bethune, Arras and Ypres) to 1st December 1917, then in Italy (Piave) to early April 1918 when returned to France (Merville and Somme). | |||||||||||
| Battalion was disbanded on 6th October 1918, personnel being transferred to other units of 5th Division. | |||||||||||
