Battalion History

Formed as a Service battalion on 30th August 1914 at Bristol by the local Citizens' Recruiting Committee.   Accepted by War Office on 23rd June 1915.   Full Title - 12th (Service) Battalion (Bristol).
Initially assigned to 95th Infantry Brigade, 32nd Division for training whilst in the UK.   Arrived in France on 21st November 1915 and 95th Brigade re-assigned to 5th Division on 26th December 1915.
Served in France and Flanders (Arras, Somme, Bethune, Arras and Ypres) to 1st December 1917, then in Italy (Piave) to early April 1918 when returned to France (Merville and Somme).
Battalion was disbanded on 6th October 1918, personnel being transferred to other units of 5th Division.
