Battalion History

Formed as a Service battalion in December 1914 at Malvern by Lt Col Sir Henry Webb, MP.   Accepted for service by the War Office on 12th July 1915.   Full Title - 13th (Service) Battalion (Forest of Dean) (Pioneers).
Assigned to 39th Division on 15th August 1915 as Divisional Pioneers.   Arrived in France on 3rd March 1916.   Served in France and Flanders (La Bassee, Somme, Ypres, Somme, Kemmel).
Battalion was reduced to cadre strength on 6th May 1918 when 39th Division were assigned to the training of US troops.   Battalion transferred to 197th Infantry Brigade, 66th Division on 16th June 1918 then were transferred to Lines of Communication duties with 197th Brigade.
Battle Honours, 9 earned at:   France and Flanders 1915 - 1918, Ypres 1917, Somme 1916 and 1918, Ancre Heights, Ancre 1916, Pilckem, St Quentin, Rosieres and Kemmel.
Battalion disbanded
