Battalion History

Formed in Bristol in 1908 as the 4th Battalion.   Battalion formed 1st and 2nd Line units in August 1914 at Bristol.   Full Title - 1/4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (Territorial Force)
Assigned to 144th Infantry Brigade, 48th (1st South Midland) Division in August 1914.   Arrived in France in March 1915.   Served in France and Flanders, and Italy.
Battle Honours, 12 earned at:   France and Flanders 1915 - 1917, Ypres 1917, Langemarck 1917, Somme 1916, Albert 1916, Bazentin, Pozieres, Broodseinde, Poelcapelle, Italy 1917 - 18, Piave, Vittorio-Veneto.
After the war, battalion served at Cornedo via Malo before returning to Bristol in March 1919.
