| Formed in 1881 as a regular battalion from 28th Regiment of Foot. Full Title - 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. |
| On declaration of war, battalion was stationed at Bordon as part of 3rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Division. Arrived in France on 12th August 1914. Served in France and Flanders throughout the war. |
