| Formed in 1881 as a regular battalion from 61st Regiment of Foot. Full Title - 2nd Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. |
| On declaration of war, battalion was serving in China and returned to UK on 8th November 1914. Assigned to 81st Infantry Brigade, 27th Division and arrived in France on 23rd December 1914. Served in France and Flanders, Salonika, Bulgaria, South Russia. |
| Battle Honours - 8 earned at: France and Flanders 1914 - 1915, Ypres 1915, Gravenstafel, St Julien, Frezenberg, Bellewaarde, Macedonia 1915 - 1918 and Struma. |
