Battalion History

Formed in 1908 as a regular reserve battalion from 3rd (Militia) Battalion.   Full Title - 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment.
On declaration of war, the battalion was stationed at Bristol and earmarked for Home Service duties.  Moved on mobilisation to Abbey Wood (Woolwich) and on to Gravesend in May 1915. Moved to Sittingbourne-Maidstone area in May 1916 for duty with Thames and Medway Garrison.
After the war, battalion returned to Bristol.
