"Cheltonians" buried in this Cemetery

LCpl George Norton GASTRELL, 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, is buried in the south-east part pf the churchyard.   He died in a hospital in Manchester on 8th October 1916, of wounds received on 9th September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.   

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the St Philip's Church War Memorial and on the Hucclecote War Memorial.

He was born in Liverpool and later moved to Hucclecote with his parents, Edward and Susanna Gastrell, who resided at Dingle Holme, Hucclecote.   George was employed by John Fisher & Co Ltd, Ironmonger, of 34 Winchcombe Street, Cheltenham.
