Brigadier General John Gordon GEDDES,
CB, CMG, Officer of the Legion of Honour, Commander of the Order of the
Crown (Roumania), late Royal Artillery, is buried in Grave No
40. He died on 16th August 1919, aged 55, in Shoreham whilst
serving as General Officer Commanding Shoreham District. He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the Cheltenham College Roll of Honour the St James Church Roll of War and also on the grave of his father in Cheltenham Cemetery. His parents, Colonel John Gordon Geddes and Mrs Madelaine Mary Geddes resided at 4 Suffolk Square, Cheltenham and his widow, Mrs Eling Esther Geddes (nee Spragge) was a native of North Wanborough, Odiham, Hants. His brother, Colonel Augustus David Geddes, was killed in action on 28th April 1915 near St Jean in the Ypres sector of Belgium. |
